Dinner at Caroline’s

Dinner at Caroline’s

It was a perfect fall night, a good glass of wine and delicious food in the company of friends. Chef Jonathan Gilman, of Caroline’s Fine Dining in Jericho, put together the perfect harvest vegetable tasting, consisting of five courses. The evening began with a nice glass of wine and a short talk by Audrey von Lepel MD and John Schraven RG (regular guy) discussing the benefits of eating in season and keeping in tune with the cycles of nature. Following the talk, we enjoyed Chef Gilman’s flavorful five course sampling.

The conversation and laughter never stopped as we all enjoyed the food and the company of good friends. The service was as always, impeccable. Chef Gilman appeared from the kitchen between courses to talk about the preparation of the food and the ingredients he used to highlight the vegetables. For example, a squash soup that contained so many levels of flavor, including fennel, five spice, cinnamon and anise. The beet and goat cheese terrine with toasted hazel nuts was beautifully plated. We finished the evening off with a carrot bread pudding, whipped cream and roasted chestnut creme anglaise.

We will be hosting a similar event during the winter months when it is so important to get out of the house and socialize with friends and neighbors over a beautifully prepared  meal.

To everyone who attended, we thank you all for coming. Our deepest thanks to Chef Gilman and his staff for a memorable evening.
