Sunflower Seed Burger for DnA

D &A’s Sunflower Seed Burger

Ingredients

  • 1 cup short grain brown rice , uncooked
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 cups sunflower seeds RAW.not roasted, not salted, raw
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 small carrot , coarsely chopped
  • 1 handful fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Combine water,salt and rice. Bring to boil.
  2. Simmer for 45 minutes.
  3. Let stand for 20 minutes in water.
  4. In food processor, add garlic, thyme,oregano,cumin,sea salt,sunflower seeds.
  5. Add 1 egg.
  6. Process until ground.
  7. Add carrot and parsley.
  8. Pulse a few times, until combined.
  9. Drain rice and add to mixture.
  10. Pulse until combined.
  11. Do not over blend.If mixture becomes too liquified, add whole wheat bread crumbs.
  12. Form mixture into patties.
  13. Heat oil on medium heat in a skillet.
  14. Cook burgers until lightly browned on each side.
  15. Serve with organic ketchup (high in lycopene) or mustard or relish.
